Nuclear Factor B Signaling in Atherogenesis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease, characterized by the accumulation of macrophage-derived foam cells in the vessel wall and accompanied by the production of a wide range of chemokines, cytokines, and growth factors. These factors regulate the turnover and differentiation of immigrating and resident cells, eventually influencing plaque development. One of the key regulators of inflammation is the transcription factor nuclear factor B (NFB), which, for a long time, has been regarded as a proatherogenic factor, mainly because of its regulation of many of the proinflammatory genes linked to atherosclerosis. NFB may play an important role in guarding the delicate balance of the atherosclerotic process as a direct regulator of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory genes and as a regulator of cell survival and proliferation. Here we address recent literature on the function of NFB in inflammatory responses and its relation to atherosclerosis. (Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol. 2005;25:904-914.)

Trimethylamine N-Oxide Promotes Vascular Inflammation Through Signaling of Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase and Nuclear Factor-jB
Methods and Results-—We explored the impact of TMAO on endothelial and smooth muscle cell function in vivo, focusing on disease-relevant outcomes for atherogenesis. Initially, we observed that aortas of LDLR / mice fed a choline diet showed elevated inflammatory gene expression compared with controls. Acute TMAO injection at physiological levels was sufficient to induce the same inflammatory ma...

Curcumin is active component of turmeric and isolated from the rhizome of turmeric, a phenolic natural product. One of inflammatory disease is multiple sclerosis, a multifocal chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease of the CNS, which is also known as a perivascular demyelinating disease. Studies have been shown that neuro-inflammation can have both harmful and beneficial effects on the neuronal...
متن کاملProtosappanin A protects against atherosclerosis via anti- hyperlipidemia, anti-inflammation and NF-κB signaling pathway in hyperlipidemic rabbits
Objective(s): Protosappanin A (PrA) is an effective and major ingredient of Caesalpinia sappan L. The current study was aimed to explore the effect of PrA on atherosclerosis (AS). Materials and Methods: Firstly, the experimental model of AS was established in rabbits by two-month feeding of high fat diet. Then, the rabbits were randomly divided into five groups and treated with continuous high ...
متن کاملP 96: Role of Thrombin in Inflammatory Central Nervous System (CNS) Diseases
Thrombin is a multifunctional enzyme which has key roles in coagulation cascade and inflammatory events. The pro-inflammatory functions of thrombin occur by different mechanisms including increasing mast cell degranulation, up-regulating the expression of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) and promoting the secretion of inflammatory chemokines and cytokines. Dysregulated signaling functions of thro...
متن کاملTrimethylamine N‐Oxide Promotes Vascular Inflammation Through Signaling of Mitogen‐Activated Protein Kinase and Nuclear Factor‐κB
BACKGROUND The choline-derived metabolite trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) has been demonstrated to contribute to atherosclerosis and is associated with coronary artery disease risk. METHODS AND RESULTS We explored the impact of TMAO on endothelial and smooth muscle cell function in vivo, focusing on disease-relevant outcomes for atherogenesis. Initially, we observed that aortas of LDLR(-/-) mic...

Objective(s): Fibromyalgia (FM) is a central nervous system disorder characterized by widespread mechanical hyperalgesia due to unknown mechanisms. Several inflammatory mediators, such as interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor, are increased in the serum of FM patients. Although medications including pregabalin, duloxetine, and milnacipran are used...
